Personality:
Harry is a modern day gentleman with an edge. A strapping, impeccably groomed man in his fifties with a killer sense of fashion, he's as dangerous as he is well-mannered, and his sharp wit is only matched by the blade hidden in the toe of his Oxford shoe.
He's a very honest, sincere man and what you see is what you get. He has no tolerance for ignorance or bullshit, and despite his noble bearing has little patience for snobbishness despite his polished manners and appearance. Harry truly believes in what he is doing and doesn't just subscribe to the ideal of being a contemporary knight- he lives it. He isn't afraid to get his hands dirty, and even less afraid to wear a custom bespoke suit while doing it. To him, etiquette and fashion are just as much tools of the trade as guns and fancy gadgets, but all of it comes second to attitude and heart of a Kingsman - striving to be sincere, helpful, classy, and generous.
At first glance, it might seem like he's putting on airs - the perfectly fitted suit, designer glasses and clipped oxford might give the impression of perfection or prissiness, but nothing could be farther from the truth. Harry is a Kingsman through and through, and being a Kingsman is a lifestyle. Harry's attire is his uniform, he works in it, sweats in it, bleeds in it, and is completely comfortable with both class and action. If Harry walks with a swagger, it's a genuine one - he doesn't posture or do anything to impress anyone. Once you get to know him, or even just look more closely, he is very much the same on the outside as on the inside, a Kingsman through and through.
Harry is an independent man who marches to the beat of his own drum, as much a rebel in middle age as he was in youth. For all that he's dedicated to the spirit of being a Kingsman, it is more a dedication to the spirit of the position rather than the rules - he's perpetually late, questions authority, and spits in the face of tradition. Harry is impulsive, and simply can't be tamed. He does what he wants when he wants and no one can tell him otherwise, not his boss, not even the Queen of England. Harry went against Arthur's wishes to recruit Eggsy's father, and later Eggsy, breaking tradition not once but twice in his desire to follow his heart, challenge the antiquated standard of who is worthy to become a member of the order, and prove a point.
Harry is old enough to acknowledge his flaws and accept them. He knows he isn't perfect, but he also knows he will get the job done - usually a lot more quickly and efficiently than people bound by code of protocol rather than honour. He is good at what he does, and considering how the Kingsmen already operate outside the borders of what is legal and are in themselves a rather controversial entity, he feels right at home. Harry was drawn to the Kingsmen because they are supposed to put what is good and what is right above what is 'proper' or legal, and if he were a perfect British gentleman and allowed his noble birth to rule him, he doesn't believe he would be half as good at his job. He's a rebel and a diva, but that's what makes him such a damned fine agent, what allows him to think outside the strict protocols set by his position both in society and in the Kingsmen.
Harry is an incredibly dedicated, loyal, and honourable man. He believes the actions of a man are what make him a gentleman, not the label of the suit or the size of the wallet, and he does his best to live up to his own standards of what a gentleman and Kingsman should be. His job is his life and he's entirely devoted to the cause, regardless of appreciation or reward. Harry cannot be bought and would never betray his comrades.
He throws himself headfirst into situations that would make any sane human being shit themselves, and his strength of body is only bested by his strength of mind and heart. He is well-read and exceptionally intelligent, but more than that, he's perceptive and open-minded, he sees potential and opportunity where others don't and doesn't judge people based on their circumstances, but who they are. Harry has an unshakeable moral code and sense of self-responsibility, and never hesitates to do what he believes is right, even if it costs him his life.
Harry isn't proud of his strengths, they're simply part of who he is and who he has chosen to be, he believes in walking the walk rather than talking the talk. He works hard and plays hard - he is always training, always learning and always looking for new opportunities to enjoy and experience life. He's acquired a lot of experience and knowlege in this way - he knows many languages, appreciates art and culture, but isn't above sitting at home with a bowl of popcorn and a Julia Roberts film on a Friday night. Harry doesn't feel he's above anything, which in turn gives him a practical and down to earth outlook on life than many of his fellow Kingsmen lack.
As an agent, he is skilled, experienced, and talented. Harry gets away with half the shit he does because, for all his casual disregard for rules and regulations, he gets the job done. Harry has decades of missions under his belt and would rather die than retire; he loves what he does and he's good at it. For some men, a life of constant jetsetting, intrigue, and espionage would be exhausting, but Harry lives for the action and the thrill. He sleeps well at night knowing he's making the world a better place, even if he's had to do some things he wasn't proud of, and he hasn't always been entirely successful. Still, he can honestly say he always gives 100 percent. He is proud of what he does, he thinks it's the best job in the world, and honestly he can't see himself doing anything else - he would die of boredom doing any other job a man of his social standing and breeding would otherwise be destined for. Some mind find their worth in women, collecting fancy cars or hunting endangered species, but Harry's is in the newspapers lining the wall of his office, trophies of every disaster averted and mission accomplished.
Harry joined the Kingsmen in his youth both much different and very much the same. He was born into money, power and prestige and after years of feeling lost and listless and entirely apathetic to the blue-blooded way of life, and their lack of ability to make changes where it mattered, began to resent the bureaucracy and the corrupt and useless government. He refused to become a sheep in the flock, becoming something of a pariah, albeit with excellent grades. When he was approached as a recruit he was all too eager to throw away everything for a chance to make a real, tangible difference. Harry is still that same idealist on the inside, albeit older and wiser, and has long since grown into the shoes he sought to fill. He sees a lot of himself in Eggsy, a youth with potential and chip off his shoulder the size of the iceberg that sunk the Titanic, and the moment he met him, truly believed he had what it took to be a Kingsman of Harry's calibre- if not better.
